Post Weekend Update

Well this past weekend, I'm happy to report that major progress has occurred at the homestead. On Saturday we tore out the entire back wall of the existing house, our good friend Mary stopped by and even chipped in pulling down siding. After we tore down the wall, we continued to work on the new subfloor of the new addition. We also had to do some slight alterations to the floor plans in order to make access to the crawlspace through the utility room.

On Sunday the entire flooring was finishing and we began erecting walls!!!! We got all the outer walls up in the new addition of the home. We also got the new windows in for the bottom half of the front of the house. Next weekend we should be framing up the inner walls of the new addition and putting in the new windows.  It's coming along and I'm getting even more excited.

New Updates

More to report... since we last left off we've made even more progress! We replaced the box sill and footer on the Eastern side of the house. We also took out the old kitchen window and replaced it with a brand new one. We've put the new sub floor down in the kitchen and have replaced the guest bathroom window. We've put up all new core board and wind proof vinyl on the eastern side of the house as well.

We've also made some new alterations to the front of the house: we're moving the front door one window space to right, basically we're swapping the entire front half of the house. Kinda confusing but you'll see later. It's best to do it now before the new windows come in, which we have ordered and they should be arriving next week.

Today we removed the old second bedroom window,  busted a hole in the old crawlspace block to make way for new plumbing and heating, painted all the foundation blocks with waterproof paint, we put in a new sump pump incase the crawlspace ever decides to flood, reinforced the new extension with rebar and concrete, put in the new footers, graded the floor for drainage into the sump pump, laid down protective vinyl and put up the new center beam that will support the new addition.

Tomorrow we should have the new window put in for the second bedroom, the last of the core board placed on the eastern side of the house and the wind protectant up as well.

We should be starting to frame up the new extension the upcoming week! I'm so excited.  Okay time for pictures.

A long time coming

Wow! It's been forever since I posted...basically because I just haven't had the time. So let's see what all have we done?!?! A lot.

Since our last post we have: Tore up the existing kitchen floor to prepare it for new sub flooring, laid new sub flooring in the bathroom, reframed the closet and walls in the bathroom, added a front closet in the living room, reframed the study, added a closet to the study, added a new window to the study, tied rafters and ceiling together, jacked the house up and replaced the base board and box sill along the West side of the house, tore off siding from the west and east side of the house, dug the extension, had concrete poured for the footers, laid block for the new extension, got our water turned on, hooked up septic to the city, ordered a new kitchen window and replaced the side door with a brand new door. That should bring you up to speed with what's going on.

We hope to get the new kitchen window in this week, along with the sub flooring. Other than that I'm not sure what's on my dad's punch list. We just show up and go with the flow.

Now for pictures.
